I have a soft spot in my heart for farmers/farming. It can be a hard business. I have many friends who have seen the family farming business end with them. Quite often it’s because you have to “go big or go home” in order to make it economically viable. It is for this reason I find it very intriguing whenever I meet young folks who are carrying on the tradition of the family farm: meet Rachel & Aron. These guys booked me to shoot their wedding – which sounds like it’s gonna be a whole lot o’ fun – and will take place on their dairy farm. So, as I often do Calgary engagement photography, I thought this would be a great opportunity to go explore some of Alberta’s beautiful countryside. When I found out that they lived close to Drumheller, I jumped at the opportunity to photograph them in the natural beauty of the Alberta badlands.
Rachel & Aron are a super fun, laid back couple and a joy to work with. We were able to bomb around to a couple of different locations in the Drumheller area. Our journey started at the beautiful Orkney lookout and then weaved our way down to the stunning Horseshoe Canyon. These guys were up for anything, which makes Calgary engagement photography so great – I love adventurous couples! Rachel & Aron had a myriad of outfits and had a deft ability to change in a moving vehicle, which I responded to with equal astonishment each time we got to a new location (imagine the flabbergasted look a toddler has on its face the first time s/he sees a magic trick). The cool blue tones in their outfits perfectly complemented Rachel’s fiery red hair and the fiery red skies – which were made more dramatic by smoke from neighbouring B.C. wildfires. All in all it was a great night and is truly what you hope for when doing Calgary engagement photography: a great couple, great weather, great scenery and a great time!
