Calgary Wedding Photographer | Pearl & Dot Bridal Fitting

There were luxury acreages in every direction, each one with a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains, their owners’ little piece of paradise. However, that is what you expect when driving on the western outskirts of Calgary, it is an area known for it’s expensive properties. What you don’t expect is (for lack of a better term) a hippie commune, just a few short kilometers away from million dollar homes. As we continued to drive the smooth blacktop gave way to dirt and gravel roads and when the road dropped into the river valley, we saw the emergence of an old semi-functional farm, with a little community of people who lived there.

When my wife and I began Kismet & Clover as a wedding design and planning company (in 2012), we were approached by a young woman named Ashley. She and her fiance had a young family and were true bohemians, not only did they dress the part (which is a popular fashion trend), but they were also both musicians/artist, active in Calgary’s underground music & culture scene. In spite of the wedding ceremony/reception site being devastated by the massive flood that year, we were able to deliver a whimsical bohemian wedding.

Fast forward three years and we were in need of a model for a shoot to promote Boutique Wedding Market – an initiative that my wife plans with a team of other wedding professionals to help local boutique wedding professionals promote their businesses – and who answers the call? Ashley.

I mean who wouldn’t want to play dress up in a gorgeous bridal boutique like Pearl & Dot? Ashley got to try a couple of different beautifully elegant gowns and strut around in them for an afternoon of shooting – a great opportunity for a Calgary wedding photographer too. Having styled Ashley’s wedding, we had already built a friendly relationship, which you can see in her relaxed effortless manner in front of the camera. To compliment her beautiful bohemian look, local hair and makeup artist BEACH Beauty did an awesome ½-up ½- down (not sure what to call it) hair-do using her impressive inventory of toxic free, cruelty free and organic beauty products.

Ultimately, as a Calgary wedding photographer it is great to work with a great team of wedding professional who value offering boutique services for the modern bride. It is also great when you get the chance to reconnect with past clients, catch-up and see what they’re up to, because ultimately photography is a people business and weather it be clients, past-clients or wedding professionals, it’s people who make it all worthwhile.
